International Women’s Day 2024

As Women, when we start acknowledging ourselves and our achievements, big or small, it gives other women and girls the permission to do the same…

…this is how we RISE!

On this International Womens Day 2024 I want to share with you that I have recently completed an amazing course and coaching certification all about women, motherhood and matresence called ‘Mama Rising’ by Amy Taylor-Kabbaz. Through my studies over the last 5 months, I have come to realise just how conditioned we are to be ‘good girls’ and I thought it would be the perfect topic to dig into and share my musings, on this auspicious day.

As girls, from a young age, we are taught not to question, not to show emotion, not to trust our intuition, not to push back and not to ask for what we want. Essentially, we are taught to do as we are told.

In Australia, our girls, and boys for that matter, are not educated on the rites of passage of womanhood - Maiden, Mother, Maga & Crone. We are encouraged to hide our monthly bleed and not discuss it or the meaning of it, and what a significant moment it represents in our lives.

We are taught to consider others feelings before our own because we wouldn’t want to upset anyone else. Even when doing this throws us completely off balance. We are taught that celebrating our achievements is boasting, and no-one likes a show-off.

Girls that are conditioned in this way, often unintentionally (it’s a repetitive generational cycle), grow into women with all sorts of issues to overcome, such as eating disorders, addictions and other mental health problems, I know, because I am one of those women.

Over the past few years, I have been on a path of healing from these traumas, and I am now working towards changing this cycle for my daughter, my niece, my friends, my clients, and all the women and girls around me. I am helping them to see that it is okay to question, to show emotion, to trust our intuition, to push back and to ask for what we want!

With the world in such a great state of turmoil, now is the time for women and girls - Maidens, Mothers, Magas and Crones to stand together, and support each other to rise above the many generations of conditioning that have led us to these overwhelming feelings of unworthiness and to take our power back one small step at a time.

There are so many wonderful women I know who completely dismiss their achievements and all the great things that they are doing and the contributions they are making because of this unhealthy conditioning. I am still guilty of it myself sometimes. Whether it be small things such as cooking a healthy meal for themselves or their loved ones, trying to raise well adjusted kids or bigger things such as completing a degree, a promotion at work or starting a business. These are all things to be proud of and take time to recognise and celebrate within ourselves and with others.

When we start acknowledging ourselves and our achievements, big or small, it gives other women and girls the permission to do the same, this is how we RISE!
